Sweet Annie
Poem written by Annie's Foster mother Jen Luckenbach

This is about the little grey stray
who completely stole my heart away.
Sweet Annie

I met her on the 26th of July
she was completely frightened and so very shy.
Her mom, who was wild, had taught her to fear
which caused her to prefer that I didn't get near.
Sweet Annie

But little by little she came around
though her achievements weren't measured by leaps and bounds.
Sometimes she'd still hide and sometimes she'd growl
And if you wanted to hold her you would need a towel.
Sweet Annie

We worried that Annie would never adjust
But slowly, so slowly she's learning to trust.
She wants to be near you, but she's still afraid
but thankfully her fears are starting to fade.
Sweet Annie

She cries for attention especially food
And she'll let you pet her when she's in the mood.
I know I will miss the satin feel of her fur
her demanding MEOWS and diminutive purrs.
Sweet Annie

Please always remember that I loved you first
but your new mum will love you for better or worse.
She knows you'll need time but give her a try
you might find out she's a pretty good guy.
Sweet Annie

So when you're in your new home and you're shy or afraid
remember the bond that you and I made.
This will help you to trust a new person today
then all that life offers will be going your way.
Sweet Annie

I love you :)
