Treacle our roaming boy.
I know I said that three cats was our limit. But I can't stop thinking about this cat we saw at the shelter last week, when we adopted Milo. I have written a thread before about how Sooty was brought to the shelter after his mum escaped from a domestic situation (Though she kept her other cat !?! ) Anyway this cat is very loving and friendly but we needed a more playful cat to befriend Milly at the time. I wanted to adopted them both both, but we have agreed that three cats, was our limit. So I rang the shelter back today to make sure he's got a good home. Sooty was adopted last weekend (after we took Milo) but he's back in the shelter as of this morning !! Sooty fell ill, so his new owners took him back to the shelter NOT to the vets. What kind of sick people are these, to wait for the weekend to return a sick pet instead of getting him treated. I just think this is fate, I really want to give him a home and all our cats are getting on together. But I don't think I could persuade my partner, I don't think we'll be able to adopt him. Anyway, the shelter are going to let me know how things go with him and what the vets said on Tuesday. Though I have admitted it is unlikely we can take him, I still want to know what happens to him. My heart is broken, this cat has now been abandoned twice in his short life.:(
The Cat Shelter rang about Sooty, he seems fine. The ex-owners had taken this friendly and laid back cat home and instead of letting him get settled in a spare room etc. They had thrown him into the main living room with three hyperactive young children. Strangely enough he started to show signs of stress including throwing up, runny poo etc. The ex-owners rang the shelter and said "We did not want a cat which needs to go to the vets"What did they think they were adopting a fluffy toy ?Any cat would have to go to the vets for some treatment at some point. What makes my blood boil is that those people will probably just go and get another cat/kitten at another place. What will happen when that cat needs treatment. PS. We won't be adopting him. :( Three cats is our limit.
The Cat Shelter rang, Sooty went in for a vet checkup and they found that his bile levels are high. In fact there was bile in his sick when in first returned to the shelter. The vet doesn't seen worry about this and is going to retest him next week. Fingers crossed this won't be anything serious. But they'll keep me informed, although in a way I should have told them not to ring me. Every time I think about Sooty, I want to adopt him, just to make sure he getting a loving forever home. PS. On a good note, Milly & George shared the bottom of our bed last night, with no arguments (Until about 4am) Milo debated about joining them but decided to sleep on the floor instead.
Sooty seems back to normal and will offered up for adoption tomorrow. I have told the lady if he comes back a second time to keep me informed but we wish him all the luck in the world, finding a new owner. So I need to pray, that Sooty will find a happy forever home asap, for him and so I can stop worrying and feeling guilty, because we took Milo rather than him :(
Yes, we got a tax rebate earlier in the week and I have been ringing the shelter hourly since Thursday, to see if Sooty still needed a home (Shelter is only officially open Saturday afternoons). Even thought we have Caramel in our spare room, we still have space in our room for Sooty. I had talked to the cat shelter about finding Caramel. The warden was trying to get us to swap Caramel for Sooty, as if we would !!! Sooty has been in the shelter since he was previously returned. A couple of people showed interest but the warden didn't feel they were the right homes for him. We arranged to pick Sooty up this afternoon and took Caramel to the vets this morning. We lost Caramel, he had to be put to sleep. *cries* So with a heavy heart we went to collect Sooty as arranged, the warden was so happy we came back for him. She told Sooty that I was a real mummy for him, not that nasty false one he had before (As he was adopted and returned after 1 week for no real reason). She practically had tears in her eyes and kept, thanking us for returning and I was still puffy eyed and very upset from losing Caramel.
Today has been very emotional and very bittersweet. I feel like I have been trapped on a scary roller coaster. I hope we will not be thought of badly for both letting Caramel move onto the RB and adopting Sooty on the same day. It has not been easy day. When we got home and we had settled Sooty (now renamed Treacle in memory of our nearly cat Caramel), into the spare room. I watched Max, Milly & Milo playing in the garden, in the long grass chasing flies. I hope that Caramel gets the same enjoyment at rainbow bridge, he deserves it.
